3 steps to take after a workplace injury

If you get hurt at work, you may not be able to return to your job for several days or even several weeks. To make up for any lost wages and to cover the cost of the medical care you need, you could be eligible for workers’ compensation benefits.

According to the Pennsylvania Department of Labor & Industry, injured workers in the state can receive payments for lost wages, medical care and specific loss benefits after a workplace accident. But to ensure your right to these benefits, you must take certain steps after the accident.

1. Seek medical care

If you sustain serious workplace injuries, seek emergency medical assistance right away. If your injuries do not require immediate medical attention, ask your employer about which physician you should see for treatment.

2. Tell your employer

Even if you notify your employer about your injury by word of mouth, you should also provide written notice about the accident and your injuries. You should do this within 30 days of the accident.

3. Document your injuries

Carefully document your recovery process and keep a daily journal of your progress. You should also make copies of all official medical records provided by your doctor and carefully follow all recommended treatment plans.

If you do not take these steps, you could put your claim for workers’ compensation at risk of denial. Contact your workers’ compensation specialist for a free, no-obligation consultation to learn how we can help you. Call 610-892-9300 or reach us online.
